Trident Swim Club was represented at the Connacht Senior Schools Championships at Leisureland in Galway last weekend, with members Gabriella Weaver and Luke Weaver both taking part in the Inter-Schools competition.
This annual event is open to all children of secondary school age who are invited to compete in a maximum of two events in the gala, bringing all the senior schools in Connacht together for this sporting occasion.
Luke Weaver, who took part as a Junior competitor, recorded a personal best in the 200 Metre Individual Medley, coming home in a time of 3:10:25. He also took part in the 100 Metre Freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:16:27. Older sister Gabriella, who competed at Intermediate level, took part in the 100 Metre Breast Stroke, coming in fourth place overall in a time of 1:22:06. However, the 100 Metre Freestyle event was where she excelled, taking the bronze medal with a personal best time of 1:02:07 and beating the Senior swimmers in the process who struggled to match the Intermediates on all levels.
Training resumes this week for members of Trident Swim Club, with members now preparing for the next A grade Gala in Tuam on Sunday, January 20, followed by the first long course gala of the season, the Gerry Ryan Memorial Meet, which takes place in early February in the University Arena in Limerick.
