The Leitrim Primary Schools Cross Country and Race-walking Championships will be held in Leitrim Gaels Community Sports Field on Wednesday, September 26, at 11.30 am.

The first three teams and individuals in each of the four events will qualify to represent the County in the Connacht Championships in Calry, Sligo, on Saturday October 13, at 1 pm.

Leitrim County Board AAI were very happy with the success of last year’s event, the first to be held during the school day and the first at this fine central venue. The event is being held a week earlier this year in the expectation that better weather conditions would make the competition attractive to more competitors.

The events are the same as in recent years and are determined at Connacht level. They are: 3rd/4th Class 800m Girls; 3rd/4th Class 800m Boys; 5/6th Class 1000m Girls; 5/6th Class 1000m Boys; Race walk 1000m Girls; Race-walk 1000m Boys

Four competitors count for a school team but six can run as part of the team. In addition, individuals who are not members of teams can compete. The entry fee is €4 per athlete and the entry fees for the Connacht Championships for the qualifiers are paid by the County Board. Further information from 071 9644207 or from any County Board officer.

The Leitrim Inter Club U- 11, 13, 15, 17 & Over 17 Championships will likely be held on Saturday October 20. Other cross-country dates for the year include the Western Region Even Ages on Sunday November 4, in Ballina and the Uneven Ages a week later at a Galway venue.

The National Inter-counties and Even Ages will be held on Sunday, November 25, in Rathoath, Co Meath with the Uneven Ages in Adamstown, Co Wexford on Sunday, December 9.
