Ballinamore has secured €180,000 in funding for an extension to the existing sports hall facility on the Enniskillen Road.
The money has been allocated under the Sports Partnership Programme announced earlier this week and will finance the construction of a 4,000 sq/ft extension.
The work will include the creation of a canteen, a scouts den, a hall and meeting room facilities and toilet facilities.
Cllr Gordon Hughes welcomed the announcement paying particular tribute to the Ballinamore Development Company and the local Scouts group for their work on the project.
“Funding has been sought for a while for this project and I am delighted to see that money has now been allocated,” he said adding that construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
The extension will be completed by the end of the year.
“Coupled with the recent good news for Ballinamore’s new secondary school and the progress on the provision of the new hospital, this investment marks a major investment in the infrastructure and amenities of the town,” said Cllr Hughes.
“Ballinamore has been neglected for a number of years so it is welcome news indeed to see that proper investment is being secured.
“This will also have the benefit of providing much needed jobs in the locality, both during the construction and following the opening of this extension.”
