The Department of Education have approved and granted €80,000 to complete the development of a playing field at Mohill Community College.
Councillor Enda Stenson said that following a question to the CEO of Leitrim VEC Martin Fallon, it has been announced that the funding has been secured and will be transferred over to the VEC shortly.
The playing field was purchased along with the site for Mohill Community College some years ago, but the money was not approved along with the grant to build the new school. Cllr Stenson has been pursuing the issue for some time since the completion of Mohill Community College. He had been previously told that the Building Unit of the Department of Education was prioritised towards buildings only and there is no funding available for the development of playing fields.
Cllr Stenson warmly welcomed the funding as “great news” and paid tribute to current acting CEO Martin Fallon, previous CEO John Blunnie and the members of Leitrim VEC for their support on the matter.
