Action hero Tom Cruise, is to be invited to visit Rosocmmon after he is presented with a scroll by the Irish government to honour his Irish roots.
The Hollywood star, who traces his roots to Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, will in Dublin this week to promote his new movie “Oblivion.” Tom Cruise’s full name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, and he can trace his roots to Kilteevan, north of Knockcroghery village. It is thought that Cruise’s grand father emigrated to America from a 33-acre farm in Kilteevan.
Roscommon County Officials are understood to have invited Tom Cruise to the county as part of ‘The Gathering’, it is not confirmed whether the A List Celeb will accept a Civic Reception in his honour and return to Roscommon for the event.
As a child Cruise visited Kilteevan with his father Thomas Mapother III. It’s also rumoured that Cruise made a secret visit to the parish while filming “Far and Away” in Kerry.
