Elderly man attacked on Carrick’s main street

Gardai are investigating a spate of burglaries.
Carrick-on-Shannon gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an elderly man was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Carrick-on-Shannon gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an elderly man was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was sitting in his vehicle on Main Street at around 2am on March 31 when passersby caused damage to the vehicle.

The man apparently got out to speak with those he thought responsible and was set upon by a group of men.

The man was badly beaten in the attack but is recovering.

Gardai have checked CCTV footage of the incident and are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this assault to come forward.

“This is a very serious incident,” said a Garda spokesperson “some witnesses have already come forward but we would like to speak with anyone else who may have been in the area at the time.”

It has been a busy weekend for gardai in Carrick-on-Shannon with seven further arrests between Saturday and Monday for public order offences in the town.
