Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government announced today that he has given sanction for Leitrim Development Company to approve funding of €318,130, to Manorhamilton Community Recreation & Sports Ltd, for the development of a Multi-purpose play field at Boggaun, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim, under the Village Renewal and Development measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
This announcement has been welcomed by local FG Deputy Tony McLoughlin and Manorhamilton area based FG Councillor, Frank Dolan who had lobbied on behalf of the group over the last 12 months.
Announcing the funding Minister Hogan said, “This project, which consists of the construction of an all-weather playing field, together with car-parking spaces and ancillary works, will provide outdoor facilities for all types of recreation and sports on a year round basis and will be of immense benefit to Manorhamilton and the surrounding area. I know it will improve the quality of life and will strengthen the social and economic fabric for all the area’s inhabitants.”
Deputy Mc Loughlin added “the project will now go back to the Board of Leitrim Development Company for the final approval on the project. This is in line with the EU’s “bottom-up” approach to rural development”.
“I along with Senator Imelda Henry met with Minister Hogan four months ago to outline to him the importance of this project to the people of Manorhamilton. I am glad that his officials have recognised this and allowed the project to proceed”
“In conclusion I wish to pay tribute to Brian Smyth and outgoing CEO, Tom Lavin and their team at Leitrim Development Company for their efforts on behalf of the hardworking committee who put together a fabulous application which will now bring much needed modern sports facilities to the biggest town in North Leitrim.
