Sligo Fianna Fail Senator Marc Mac Sharry missed Tuesday’s Seanad sitting on organ donations because he was on holiday, despite demanding the emergency recall.
The motion to overturn an EU directive was lost by just one vote. It was tied 22-22 before Cathaoirleach Senator Paddy Burke cast his vote and voted with the Government.
Fianna Fail said it had expected “most” of its senators will be present.
Drumshanbo Senator Paschal Mooney was one of the 20 senators who signed the petition demanding the emergency sitting to overturn an EU directive enacted into law a year ago.
The Dail won’t be debating the issue during the Summer break because Fianna Fail failed to collect enough signatures to force the recall.
