Boyle Abbey is to be included as a stopover point on the popular CIE Tours International next year.

The Irish Traditional 12 day coach tour with CIE had previously only used Boyle as a photo stop.

But thanks to ongoing lobbying from members of Roscommon County Council Local Tourism Network, the 2014 CIE tour will include a guided tour of historic Boyle Abbey.

The stopover is expected to boost tourism in the town, which has recently become famous through Chris O’Dowd’s comedy series Moone Boy.

The Local Tourism Network are also lobbying to have Arigna Mining Museum, Lough Key Forest Park and King House included in the tour.

The majority of people who use the tour are from America or Canada.

The tour includes hot tourism spots such as Killarney, Blarney, Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry and the Book of Kells.
