Retired Manorhamilton/Blacklion garda dies following assault

A post-mortem is being carried out on the body of a retired garda, who died following an assault at his home in Dublin last weekend.

Seamus Marren, 57, who served as a garda in Manorhamilton and Blacklion for a number of years, was attacked at his home in Clonsilla on Saturday night.

He was take to hospital for treatment before being discharged the following day however he became ill and was readmitted.

He passed away on Wednesday morning.

Mr Marren retired from the force in 2011.

Gardai say they are following a particular line of inquiry in relation to the assault.
