Cllr Gordon Hughes has confirmed that Ballinamore Garda Station is to be assigned its own garda car with immediate effect.
The previous vehicle stationed in Ballinamore was damaged during an incident a few weeks ago. Since then garda cars from Carrick-on-Shannon have been providing coverage for the area.
Cllr Gordon Hughes told the Leitrim Observer that he had spoke with the local Superintendant and had been assured that a vehicle was now being re-stationed at Ballinamore until a new vehicle was sourced.
“I am delighted that the vehicle has been assigned to the Station. It was a matter of great concern for the locality,” acknowledged Cllr Hughes. He said he had also spoken to Deputy Frank Feighan and asked him to raise the concerns of local residents with Minister Shatter.
Cllr Hughes also welcomed the announcement by the Department of Justice earlier today (Thursday) that 305 new Garda vehicles will be delivered before the end of this year.
“Hopefully this allocation will include a new car for Ballinamore,” said Cllr Hughes.
