“Anything worthwhile is worth waiting for” or so the old saying goes, and that is surely the case for the people of Rossinver.
At long last the foundation is now in for Rossinver’s new Community Centre, and if this weather keeps up it won’t be long before there are major celebrations inside.
The contract for the building was awarded to Paul Gallagher of Clyhore Developments who moved in on the site two weeks ago. The journey so far hasn’t been an easy one but, after many humps and hurdles, funding was finally secured and permission granted to proceed.
Seventy five per cent funding was secured through LEADER, the national rural development programme managed by Leitrim Development company and a loan of 25% match funding through the Western Development Commission was also secured.
The community of Rossinver has already supported the development of the site which makes work so much easier but fundraising will need to be ongoing and lots of help will be needed.
Any help that you can give will be much appreciated. The fundraisers are all good fun and ways for the community to come together.
The Annual Duck Race and BBQ takes place this Sunday, September 28 at 2pm, a great day out for all the family. Vincent and Eugene head for Fowley’s Falls with the ducks.
Excitement mounts, especially for the children to see whose duck will come round the bend at Ballagh Church only to get stuck in a rock or an eddy just before the finishing line.
While you wait for the final you can sample one of Anna and Frank’s burgers outside Gilbrides. The best bit of crack you will have for just €2 a line, on sale on the day or you can pick one up in local shops or at Supervalu, Manorhamilton on Friday between 11am and 3pm.
You know it’s a good investment when it will help to achieve the dream of a new community centre for Rossinver.
