Leas Cathaoirleach of the Ballinamore District Paddy O’Rourke asked the Council to amend the situation regarding the numbering of the houses at the estate at Bredagh, Carrigallen.

He said “We have a situation where three houses bear the same number and cases where two houses bear the same number.” He said this is causing “great confusion” with the delivery of mail as well as with emergency services.

He explained that some of the houses were built in the 60s, more were built in the 80s and some more old peoples dwellings were built, each development started their house numbers at 1.

Despite the council responding that this issue is in a private residential estate, Cllr O’Rourke said the “principal owners are the council.” He said there is confusion where Bredagh, Barleyfield and Mill Lane estates start and end. He added the issue could also be resolved with “proper signage” of estates. The council said they will look at it again, but it may be that all houses will need to be renumbered.
