Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery of a Post Office in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan on Monday morning, September 7.

Two men armed with a knife and a handgun entered the premises after 9am Monday morning, threatening staff before making off with a sum of cash.

The armed men were dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas, they made off with a sum of money in a Blue Nissan Almera which was later found burnt out on the Carrigallen Road out of the town.

The Ballyconnell Fire Brigade attended the scene of the burnt car.

No one was injured during the incident but staff were left shaken by the ordeal.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who noticed this car or any other vehicle acting suspiciously in the area either the previous night or the morning of the raid to contact them at Ballyconnell Garda Station on 049-952-6102.
