BALLINAMORE area councillor, Gordon Hughes, has cautiously welcomed the news that the €6m Ballinamore Community Hospital project has been included in the Draft Capital Plan for 2011.

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer this week, Cllr Hughes said that he had received confirmation form HSE West Area Operations Manager, Pat Dolan, that the detailed design and bill of quantities for the 20 bed residential care unit and associated facilities had been finalised and authority is now being sought from the National HSE to go to tender.

“Pending no further amendments to the budget by the incoming government it is hopped that the project will proceed to tender stage by the end of 2011/start of 2012,” he said. “If this happens then construction is likely to commence in mid 2012.”
