The Minister of State at the Department of Finance with responsibility at the Office of Public Works (OPW), Brian Hayes, has announced flood relief funding for north in the region of €78,000.
The Minor Flood Mitigation works scheme has awarded funding directly to Leitrim County Council for several areas.
The funding includes €22,300 for the construction of an embankment between the Bonet River and R289 at Stonepark Dromahair; €25,000 for channel cleaning at Greyfield; a further €20,000 for similar works on the R280 at Killargue and €10,900 for channel cleaning at Ballinagar/Carrowcrin.
The scheme will also allow Leitrim County Council to fund works and studies to address localised funding in these areas.
Welcoming the announcement, Fine Gael Deputy for Sligo/North Leitrim, Tony McLoughlin, expressed his thanks to the Minister who met with a number of delegations in North Leitrim late last year.
Minister Hayes’ visit included meetings with local councillors, John McTernan and Frank Dolan, who, he said, had “lobbied the Minister in particular for these individual areas”.
“I want to conclude by thanking local Senior Engineer, Padraig McShera from Leitrim County Council who, following our meeting with Minister Hayes, submitted these areas for consideration by the OPW,” added Deputy McLoughlin.
