Access course for school leavers

The Access Course for School Leavers (18-21 years) targets students who have the ability to benefit from and succeed in higher education but who, for a variety of financial or related reasons are underrepresented at third level.

The Access Course for School Leavers (18-21 years) targets students who have the ability to benefit from and succeed in higher education but who, for a variety of financial or related reasons are underrepresented at third level.

The aim of the course is to prepare students for direct entry to undergraduate degree programmes at NUI Galway or St. Angela’s College, Sligo, in the Colleges of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies, Business, Public Policy & Law, Science, Engineering & Informatics and Schools of Education, Nursing and Health Sciences.

The Course will run from October 2012 to April 2013 two evenings per week with additional sessions on Saturdays. While developing core learning skills (ICT, Academic Writing, Study Skills, Educational Guidance) the course allows students to sample a variety of taster academic subjects including Science, Economics, Sociology, Politics, Maths, Nursing, Philosophy and Home Economics in a supportive environment.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms for this course is: Friday, 31st August, 2012.
