Join the Native Woodland Trust on Saturday 19th January to help create a native woodland reserve right on the border of Counties Leitrim and Longford.
The Native Woodland Trust is holding a hands-on volunteering day on our beautiful Farnaght Woodland Reserve on Saturday, 19th January at 11am and they are looking for volunteers.
The reserve is situated in the picturesque rolling landscape between Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford town near the village of Drumlish. At the volunteering day we will be working on the reserve itself checking up on our oak trees and doing some bramble bashing and plotting woodland paths.
The Native Woodland Trust is a registered environmental charity that aims to protect Ireland native woodlands and plant new ones. At the Farnaght reserve the Trust is developing a woodland consisting entirely of native Irish trees. This woodland reserve will in turn support woodland plants and animals such as bluebells, birds and woodland mammals.
At this point the Farnaght Woodland Reserve is almost entirely planted with native Irish trees such as oak, hazel and birch. In 2013 they will be working on the finishing touches needed on this woodland reserve, such as managing a grassland meadow, adding pathways and doing some important vegetation control work. Join them on the first volunteering day of 2013 to lend a hand in creating a beautiful native woodland reserve at this peaceful location on the border of Leitrim and Longford.
The Native Woodland Trust is looking for volunteers to help out at this hands-on volunteering day with tasks such as vegetation control and tree maintenance. All work will be supervised and amply instructed. If you are interested in learning more about nature conservation or would just like to get out and help conserve Ireland’s native woodland then join them for this fun volunteering day.
