The new Community Centre in Rossinver is well under construction and received a blessing from Fr Pat Flannery who also launched the Buy a Brick campaign at The Kabin on Sunday afternoon, 30th November.
Following the blessing on the community centre site, the Board of Rossinver Youth and Community Project hosted an information afternoon at The Kabin.
Architect Ian Pudney gave a progress report on the building project which is at roofing stage already and is scheduled to be completed by February.
The chairperson, Philip Rooney, outlined the challenges that the present committee have faced to bring the project this far. He expressed his relief and delight that finally, the wishes of the people of Rossinver to have a replacement for the old Ballagh Hall will be fulfilled.
He thanked his colleagues on the committee and in particular the Board and staff of Leitrim Development Company for their continued support to the project.
Fr O Donnell from Killinagh, who assisted Fr Pat with the blessing, thanked RYCP for the help that has been given to the West Cavan area through the RYCP Community Employment Programme. “
It has been a wonderful support to our community and it is great to see communities working together. Indeed without that support community employment might have been lost to our area altogether”.
Philip then invited Fr Pat to launch the ‘Buy a Brick’ fundraiser by presenting him with a brick with his name and the date of the blessing.
The Buy a Brick campaign will help raise matching funding for the new community centre.
Bricks can be brought for €100 with three payment options, directly to the committee, though the Website www.rossinveryouthcommunity.com, or directly to the RYCP Bank Account in four payments.
Details are outlined in the new Community Newsletter which was delivered to every household in Rossinver the previous week.
