The study in to the Defined Daily Dose of antibiotics prescribed in Co Leitrim showed that the rate in Co Leitrim was from 19.572 to less than 23.688 per 1,000 inhabitants per day. This put us in the middle range of counties.

The figures showed that the highest rates of antibiotic use was in Counties Mayo, Longford and Westmeath while high rates of antibiotic use were also recorded for Counties Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Donegal and Galway. The lowest consumers of antibiotics were found in Counties Kilkenny, Meath, Roscommon, Wicklow and Clare.
