Bishop of Kilmore, Leo O’Reilly, has confirmed that there are no plans to close churches in the parish of Ballaghameehan, in north Leitrim.

Local reports had claimed that two of the four churches in the parish had been slated for closure.

However, when contaced by the Leitrim Observer this week, Bishop O’Reilly stressed that these reports were incorrect.

“There are no Church closures in the parish of Ballaghameehan. The weekend Masses in the parish will in future be in St Aidan’s, Ballaghameehan on Saturday evening and Sunday morning and in St Patrick’s, Kiltyclogher on Sunday morning,” he explained.

“There are no weekend Masses in St. Aidan’s, Glenaniff and St. Mary’s, Rossinver.

“However, there will continue to be weekday Masses and other services in these Churches as before and there is no plan to close either Church.”
