Rescind cuts to light funding

Cllr Francis Gilmartin has called for the Minister for Environment and Local Government, Phil Hogan, to rescind a rescind decision to withdraw funding for security lighting for elderly people living alone.

Cllr Gilmartin said it was “scandalous” that elderly people, living in very vulnerable circumstances, often in isolated rural areas, would no longer be able to take advantage of this funding.

“They are taking away this €120 at a time when they expect these same people to fork out €100 for the Household Charge. It’s scandalous,” he said as he put forward his motion.
