Thieves have been targeting car yards in the midlands and north west area in the latest car parts scam.
A number of car yards have been targeted in recent weeks in the Longford area in particular.
Those involved in the scam enter car yards and remove high cost items such as catalytic converters or batteries from vehicles. The thieves have been targeting later model vehicles and four wheel drives as part of the scam.
These car parts are then sold on to scrap yards for disposal.
Gardai are now warning people to be wary of anonymous people selling car parts through internet sales sites or at car boot markets. Car scrap yard owners are also advised not to purchase car parts from questionable sources.
