The close-knit Boyle community has been devastated by the tragic death of a 19-year-old following a night out with family in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The young woman, named locally as Ava Mai Roddy, had been out with family and friends in Co Leitrim following a christening. She took ill after she boarded a bus outside a local nightclub for the journey home in the early hours of Monday morning.
Paramedics were called to the scene and they treated the unconscious young woman before transferring her to Sligo Regional Hospital, however she passed away shortly after 5.30am.
Gardai immediately cordoned off the scene at the nightclub, including the bus Ava had boarded for the trip home.
A spokesperson for the gardai described the death of the young woman as devastating for her family, friends and the local community and he thanked everyone who had come forward to assist with the investigation.
A post mortem was conducted by the State Pathologist yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) and gardai are treating the death as a tragic incident.
Ava’s remains will be reposing at her residence today, Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm with removal on Thursday to St Joseph’s Church, Boyle for Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. House private on Thursday morning please.
