Sligo/North Deputy Tony McLoughlin and Leitrim County Councillor, Enda McGloin have welcomed confirmation of a €15,000 for Leitrim Calling, a voluntary service based in Drumshanbo which keeps in touch by phone with the elderly community in rural areas.
The funding will go towards the cost of further development and improvement of the service which operates from the ‘Food Hub’ in Drumshanbo. Leitrim Calling provides twice weekly calls to a network of elderly people in the south Leitrim area.
Its volunteers are specially trained to listen and communicate with their clients.
Drumshanbo based councillor, Enda McGloin who also serves as Chairperson of Leitrim Calling expressed his gratitude to Minister Reilly and to Deputy McLoughlin who supported the application.
“I also want to thank members of the committee at Leitrim Calling for putting together a very good application which I am sure will assist in sustaining a good future for the service,” Cllr McGloin told the Leitrim Observer this week.
