Sligo based TD Tony McLoughlin has welcomed the Government’s decision to announce the Children’s Referendum is to take place on Saturday, November 10th.
Speaking last week, the Sligo/North Leitrim Deputy said: “This is the first time that a national plebiscite will be held on a Saturday which I hope will enable a significant number of extra people to vote in this referendum.
“Last June under a Topical Issues debate, I called on the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to allow Saturdays as the voting day. I am glad that this will happen to allow more people to vote and ensure many school children will not lose a school day and in turn inconvenience many parents as a lot of polling booths are based in schools.”
