Ballyconnell Garda Station which is located close to the border of Fermanagh is to keep it’s current status for a few months.
The district Garda HQ in Co Cavan was due to be amalgamated with Cavan Town this month, but the unpopular move has been delayed until at least November.
The station has been working with the PSNI on a number of vandalism and security alerts around the area of the Quinn Group factories this year. Redhills Garda Station which also sits close to the border of Fermanagh has also delayed it’s merger, the move may be related to the hosting of the G8 Summit in Fermanagh in June.
Following on from a number of security alerts in the border area over the past few months and concern over the high profile G8 summit in June, Number 10 Downing Street have said that where particular issues are identified, “contingency plans are being developed with PSNI, AGS and our partners and stakeholders. This work is ongoing and is being led by senior officers from both organisations.”
