An Australian grassroots, national coalition, called the “Lock the Gate Alliance” will give a talk in Leitrim Village this week on the impacts of gasfields on communities.
The group’s mission is to protect Australia’s natural, environmental, cultural and agricultural resources from inappropriate mining, including ‘fracking’ and to educate and empower all Australians to demand sustainable solutions to food and energy production.
Annie Kia’s talk “Impacts of Gasfields on Communities: The Australian experience” will cover issues such as the economic impacts, social consequences, institutional failure to protect and the cost to the environment and the health of local communities. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in Leitrim Village, Community Hall, Thursday May 2, 8.30pm
All local politicians, TDs and Councillors have been invited to attend. Minister for Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte and Junior Minister Fergus O’Dowd have also been invited to attend.
