In a welcome turn of events Leitrim County Council has secured an additional €75,642 in funding for its Housing Adaptation Grant Schemes.
According to a notice sent to local representatives yesterday (Tuesday), the funding increase now brings the total amount allocated by the exchequer to Leitrim County Council to €205,604.
When combined with the match funding provided by the Council itself, this brings the total available allocation in 2013 to €257,005.
Although there is no indication yet of whether the Council plans to re-open applications for the scheme, the Leitrim Observer understands that staff are preparing to meet with the Housing and Corporate Services SPC on Monday, May 13 to discuss this possibility.
Cllr John McCartin has welcomed the funding increase describing the previous allocation as inadequate and unacceptable.
“The previous allocation left Leitrim County Council unable to execute its obligations to the most needy in the county.
“While this is not a huge sum of money, in the context of the needs of the whole county, it will bring a better quality of life to some who need it,” Cllr McCartin acknowledged.
