Cllr Sean McGowan has sought support for a motion calling for a multi-agency housing programme which would see unfinished housing stock sold to young people who would then finish the work themselves.
Cllr McGowan said this would need a collaborative approach between the Government, NAMA and the financial institutions to put in place, with the Local Authority also required to finish off the necessary infrastructure works on these estates.
The Fianna Fáil councillor said this would be the ideal way to get rid of unfinished housing stock and provide affordable housing solutions for first time buyers.
His motion received unanimous support.
