Minister Jimmy Deenihan was caught on the hop last Friday when he was asked why Leitrim is the only county not to have a Heritage Officer.

Ger Kelly from Dromahair put the question forward outside the homestead of Sean MacDiarmada last Friday. She asked that the minister appoint an officer in memory of Sean MacDiarmada.

Minister Deenihan told Mrs Kelly she made her point well and he would discuss the issue with the council and relevant bodies.

Ger Kelly told the Leitrim Observer she asked the question because she is concerned about the “rot of our wonderful protected Abbey Manor Hotel in Dromahair.”

She said she was impressed with Minister Deenihan and the way he dealt with her concern.
