Waterways Ireland has advised masters and owners to take due care after torrential rain last week led to rising water levels. Lead-in jetties to locks may have become submerged, making them untenable as moorings.

Warnings have also been issued about checking the mooring lines of vessels berthed in harbours for the winter period to avoid damage to the vessel or mooring infrastructure.
