Between 6 and 7 people are believed to have been taken to hospital following a bus crash which was on its way to the Carrick Camino Walk at the weekend.
Early on Saturday morning a bus carrying 56 passengers slid off the road and overturned in the Derreendooey area between Keadue and Knockvicar in north Roscommon, at around 7 AM.
Gardaí attended the scene, and while six or seven people were taken to a hospital in Sligo for treatment, no serious injuries have been reported.
The bus passengers safely exited through the emergency exit at the back, with the help of nurses on board.
One passenger described a frightening moment when a branch pierced through a window, narrowly missing her face.
680 walkers out of the 700 registered completed the challenging 34 km trek that has become a highlight in the local calendar.
The event, held on the 31st of August, was a resounding success, attracting participants from near and far who came to enjoy its scenic beauty and camaraderie.
Despite the chaos of the crash, the remaining 47 bus passengers regrouped and continued with the walk, showcasing their resilience and determination.
Their ability to push forward and complete the trek highlighted the event's spirit of perseverance and community.
A garda investigation into the incident is continuing.
