Nearly 4,000 Leitrim homes without power over 10 days after Storm Éowyn

3,500 homes and businesses in Leitrim remain without power 11 days after the devastation of Storm Éowyn. Leitrim residents have faced significant hardships, lacking electricity, water and phone signal.

Many in Leitrim feel that rural communities have been overlooked, with reports indicating that power may not be restored to some areas until later this week.

The worst hit areas in Leitrim include Ballinamore, Mohill, Cloone and Carrigallen.

Speaking on Shannonside with Joe Finnegan this morning, Jarlath Doyle from ESB networks stated that a small number of homes across the region will not have power restored until after the weekend.

He noted that approximately 6,000 homes are still waiting for power to be restored.

The ESB are being assisted by crews from France, Austria, Finland, Germany, the United Kingdom and Norway.

Leitrim County Council’s Local Co-ordination group in collaboration with An Garda Síochana, the HSE and the ESB has established over 30 community support hubs to assist those most affected by January’s storm.

These hubs will remain open this week and provide essential services such as water, hot drinks, phone charging, and toilet and shower facilities.

A full list of hubs, opening times and facilities can be found here

Leitrim County Council’s dedicated Community Support Helpline can also be contacted from 9am to 5pm on 071 965 0471.

The public can also email storm@leitrimcoco.ie for support.

Individuals in need of assistance can access support through the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme.

The scheme provides emergency financial assistance to households unable to cover essential needs following the storm.

It covers structural damage, emergency income support for necessities such as food and clothing and as well as damage to home items like carpets, appliances and furniture.
