Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre have pleaded with the community to continue donating to help save the lives of abandoned animals.
Organiser of the emergency appeal, Megan Gaffney, said the centre has already taken in several stray dogs since the start of the year and without the help of the help of the community, they will struggle to keep the doors open.
A GoFundMe page was set up to receive donations from anyone wanting to help, which has raised an impressive €3,560 out of a €10,000 goal.
The page reads: "Emergency Appeal. In just the first 7 days of 2025, we’ve already taken in 5 abandoned strays, each in heartbreaking conditions. It’s devastating. These dogs are suffering, and they’ve been lucky to make it to Leitrim Animal Welfare, but we’re scared for those who haven’t.
"It’s hard to believe how much these dogs have been through in such a short time. Each one has a story of pain, neglect, and abandonment.
"Without the help of our community, Leitrim Animal Welfare may not be able to keep its doors open. And without us, we shudder to think what would happen to these innocent animals.
"Our centre is their only hope - but we need your help to keep going.
"We’re asking you to donate whatever you can.
"Your contribution will help with:
"Please, donate today to help us save the lives of those who need us most. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
"Let’s make 2025 the year of hope for these animals, not heartbreak. Share to help us spread the word!
"Thank you for being the voice for those who can’t speak. Together, we can give them the future they deserve."
