Fishing stand at Leitrim lake to be replaced

Leitrim County Council will liaise with relevant parties to replace the fishing stand at Creenagh lake, located along the Mohill to Gortletteragh road.

At March’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Sean McGowan proposed a motion for the fishing stand to be replaced as it has “fallen into a state of disrepair.”

In response, the Economic Development department confirmed that the Council will write to Inland Fisheries and Shannon Regional Fisheries Board to ask for the replacement of the fishing stand.

Cllr McGowan welcomed the response, and noted the increasing number of anglers returning to the lake.

“There’s more anglers coming now. There was a fall off period but it’s great to see that they’re coming back,” he said.

Additionally, Cllr McGowan put forward a motion asking the District Engineer to implement a programme of works to carry out repairs to the parapet walls leading up to the bridge over the Rynn river at Johnstone Bridge in Bornacoola.

He also requested that Longford County Council be contacted to carry out any necessary repairs on their side of the river.

“The parapet wall on the Leitrim side is in very, very poor condition,” Cllr McGowan said.

“It’s a lovely stone bridge but has fallen into a state of disrepair.”

In response, the Roads department clarified that the bridge is under the ownership of Longford County Council, and confirmed that they will be informed of Cllr McGowan’s request to have the bridge and parapets restored.
