The Roads department of Leitrim County Council has confirmed that signage cleaning and signage repairs will be completed before the end of Q1 of this year.
Cllr Cormac Flynn proposed that Leitrim County Council conduct a reconnaissance of the worst affected road markings and address the most urgent issues outside the regular maintenance schedule.
“Through normal wear and tear, and a result of the recent storm, many road markings and signs are in a poor state of repair,” his motion stated at March’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District.
He highlighted that some road signs had been turned in the wrong direction by the storm, while certain pedestrian crossings and line markings were fading.
All attending members supported Cllr Flynn’s motion.
District engineer Darragh O’Boyle requested that councillors report any locations with affected double yellow lines or stop lines, and these can be rectified quickly.
He also informed members that centre lines and yellow lines on regional roads would be restored once a Restoration Improvement Grant becomes available.
A reply from the Roads department stated, “The district engineer office will carry out signage cleaning and signage repair on a number of regional roads in the 1st quarter of this year. “The road lining schedule of works follows the road works programme and assigns funding to replenishing these road markings.
“We react to a number of requests throughout the county to replenish roads which are not on the yearly programme,” the response concluded.
