Fundraiser for Leitrim family following heartbreaking losses

A fundraiser will be held in The Dugout, Aughavas for the family of Lars Rasmussen.

The community of Aughavas has come together to support Fenna Rasmussen and her two children Ryder and Tatum, through a fundraiser.

The family suffered two devastating losses - the tragic passing of Lars, their husband and father, two weeks ago and the destruction of their home in Aughalough, Aughavas due to a fire, leaving them homeless.

A large crowd gathered at Aughavas Community Centre on March 8, all wishing to do their best to help and support the family who are very much part of the community.

That night, a committee was formed, and a fundraising raffle was organised for Saturday, March 22 at The Dugout Bar, Aughavas.

Pauline at the Dugout has generously offered finger food and music for the event. A wide range of prizes will be raffled, including a trailer load of firewood, vouchers for an overnight stay and dinner at Kilronan Castle, a voucher for Lough Rynn, cash prizes, beauty vouchers, supermarket vouchers and more prizes are still rolling in. A signed Leitrim jersey will also be auctioned on the night.

Raffle lines are on sale at local outlets in Aughavas, Carrigallen, Ballinamore and Mohill. In addition, an iDonate fundraising page has also been set up, where people can contribute online here

As always, in times of tragedy, the true spirit of a community shines. The committee would like to sincerely thank all the local businesses who have been so generous with their donations of prizes for the raffle.

A special word of thanks goes to The Kilbracken Arms hotel in Carrigallen who looked after the family and wider community so generously after Lars’ cremation ceremony.

“Thank you very much to everyone who has donated and helped out so far, we hope that our efforts will bring some comfort to Fenna and her two beautiful children at this difficult time,” said Cllr Róisín Kenny.
