Calls have been renewed for a long-promised bus shelter in Glenfarne, in the Manorhamilton direction, which was previously committed to.
At a meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, Cllr Felim Gurn proposed that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) be contacted urgently regarding the installation of the bus shelter.
While a bus shelter is in place towards the Enniskillen direction, there is none in the direction of Manorhamilton.
The issue had previously been raised in motions by former Cllr Sean McDermott.
Cllr Gurn also questioned when a pedestrian crossing on the N16 outside Clancy’s restaurant would be installed to slow down traffic.
“Anyone who uses the road can see how fast the cars are going,” Cllr Gurn said. “It’s an accident waiting to happen.”
A response from the Roads department confirmed that a feasibility and options report for road safety improvements for Vulnerable Road Users in Glenfarne had been approved by the TII.
Leitrim County Council expects that the TII will provide an allocation for the scheme in 2025.
Once the funding is secured, Leitrim County Council will appoint a consultant to advance the project through design, planning, tendering, supervision and completion.
