A proposal was made during a meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District to fast track the provision of proper lay-bys on five minor roads within the municipality.

Cllr Des Guckian urged that engineers be tasked with identifying the roads requiring these lay-bys, with the aim of having them constructed this year.

He particularly urged that the back road from Aughriman townland into Drumshanbo be prioritised for the addition of a lay-by.

In response, a report from the Roads department confirmed that the district office has already outlined priority roads for investment under its three year plan, which was approved in the final quarter of last year.

80 percent of the identified roads are local roads, and where necessary, lay-bys will be constructed as part of restoration improvement works funded by the grant scheme.

The reply also noted that a 1km stretch of the L-7386 in Aughriman townland has been earmarked for improvement works.
