Approach to Dromod
A tabletop-style ramp will be installed at the entrance into Dromod on the Dublin side, along with another ramp on the Carrick on Shannon side of the village, as part of funding from Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
This update follows a motion by Cllr Irene Guckian-Rabbitte, who requested the installation of two additional flat-topped speed ramps on the L-1601 to help control vehicle speeds.
She proposed that one ramp be located before the entrance to Tot’s Haven childcare facility, and another near MacOisin Place.
Cllr Guckian-Rabbitte highlighted that visibility is limited on the Carrick-on-Shannon side and that fast-moving traffic creates a “dangerous situation.”
Her motion was seconded by Cllr Sean McGowan, who added, “People speed through the village with no regard and it’s not safe for the local community.”
In response, the Roads department confirmed that the two ramps will be installed. The ramp on the Dublin side will be placed at the existing gateway speed signage, while the final location for the Carrick-on-Shannon side ramp will be determined based on public lighting, drainage and traffic visibility.
“The existing pedestrian crossing in the centre of the village will remain at grade,” the response concluded.
