A Garda Information Centre will now be held on the first Tuesday of every month at the old Garda Barracks in Keshcarrigan.

On June 3, Gardaí returned to the building for the first time since 2013 to host a community clinic from 2pm to 4pm.

The former Leitrim Garda Barracks was decommissioned 13 years ago and remained closed until now.

In a post on Facebook, An Garda Síochána Sligo/Leitrim stated, “Gardaí were delighted to return to the old Garda Barracks in Keshcarrigan for the first time since it closed in 2013.

“The local community and committee must be congratulated on the fantastic renovation of this historic building.”

Located in the heart of Keshcarrigan village, the Garda Barracks has undergone extensive restoration thanks to the efforts of Keshcarrigan Development Association.

Their vision is to repurpose the building as a multi-use facility for the local area and surrounding communities.

In January 2024, Leitrim County Council issued a license officially transferring the building to the association and local community.

Subsequently, in July 2024, a planning application was submitted to transform the former Barracks into a museum and working hub.

Once complete, the facility will include community rooms, co-working spaces, indoor and outdoor play areas, a heritage museum narrating the building’s history since 1861, and garden allotments in the spacious rear grounds. A lift will ensure access to the first floor.

The Garda Community Clinic will continue to operate at Keshcarrigan Garda Barracks from 2pm to 4pm on the first Tuesday of every month.
