Funding will be submitted to the Department next year for remedial works on a road in Drumsna, which forms part of the old N4.

At a meeting of the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Maeve Reynolds asked that the R299 road outside The Grange housing estate, approaching the village, be assessed for remedial works and considered for the old N4 grant.

She noted the importance of bringing the road surface back up to standard, since Drumsna village is not included in the current three-year road works plan.

In response, the Roads department clarified that the R299-1, which provides access to The Grange housing estate, serves as the current off-ramp from the N4 towards Drumsna.

“This is part of the old N4 and will be submitted to the department for funding next year,” the response stated.

Cllr Reynolds also sought an update from the Council regarding communication with Roscommon County Council on securing funding and advancing the footpath project between Drumsna and Jamestown.

“This project should remain an absolute priority due to its importance for local recreation, connectivity between the villages, and its potential to support tourism,” her motion read.

Roscommon County Council has submitted an application under the Project Development Measure of the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) to examine the feasibility of developing a Greyway between Drumsna and Jamestown.
