Water supply returning to South Leitrim following burst main repairs

Alternative supplies remain in place as Uisce Éireann warns of low pressure while the system refills

Water supply is gradually returning to households and businesses across Ballinamore, Fenagh, and surrounding areas following successful repair works to a burst water main that had disrupted service in recent days.

Uisce Éireann confirmed that repairs have been completed and supply is being restored incrementally, with some customers continuing to experience reduced pressure as the local reservoir replenishes.

To assist those still without full supply, alternative water sources remain available at the following locations: The Square, Ballinamore; Ballinamore Agri Stores; Coraleehan Church; Aughawillan National School; Corrinnabainne.

Residents are reminded to bring their own containers when collecting water and to boil all water from these sources before use, as a precautionary health measure.

Uisce Éireann’s Kevin Love acknowledged the community’s patience during the outage.

“Uisce Éireann acknowledges the disruption that can be caused by unplanned outages, and we wish to thank customers in the area for their patience as the reservoir continues to replenish to normal levels.

“Customers may experience reduced water pressure over the coming days as supply catches up with demand. We also acknowledge and regret the frequency of bursts on this water main over the last two weeks and the impact that supply disruptions have had on our customers in the Ballinamore area.

“Uisce Éireann is collating records of the locations of bursts, burst history and frequency. We will use this information to inform water mains replacement projects under our Leakage Reduction Programme. This will be subject to prioritisation with other emerging needs in the region and available funding.”

Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann have been receiving direct notifications regarding the outage. The utility company’s 24/7 customer care helpline remains available at 1800 278 278, and updates can also be found via X @IWCare or on the water supply and services section of www.water.ie.

Residents are also encouraged to sign up for Uisce Éireann’s free text alert service to receive real-time updates specific to their area. Registration is available by providing an Eircode and mobile number at www.water.ie.
