There were cheers, music, and more than a touch of glamour in Carrick-on-Shannon at the weekend as six-year-old Séamie Séan Ó Braonáin finally picked up the suit he had set his heart on — and paid for it with money he earned busking at the Fleadh.
The Donegal youngster, who became the breakout star of TG4’s Fleadh25, had told presenter Aoife Ní Thuairisg live on air that he planned to busk to save up for the outfit. True to his word, he took to the busy streets of Wexford, fiddle in hand, singing and performing the Brush Dance. Within hours, his lively performance had gone viral, turning him into a household name.
On Saturday, Séamie Séan’s fairytale came full circle when he arrived at Gerard Anthony Menswear in Carrick-on-Shannon in a stretched limousine, accompanied by cousins who styled themselves as his “bodyguards.” The celebration spilled onto the street as dancers and musicians from Áirc Damhsa, led by artistic director Edwina Guckian, joined in the fun.

It was Edwina who had first directed him to the shop earlier this summer during Áirc Damhsa’s Culture Camp, when the young musician went looking for dancing shoes. He didn’t find the shoes — but he did spot the suit that would capture his imagination.
Music runs in Séamie Séan’s blood. The son of Kíla musician Seanan Brennan and musician and actress Fiona Maria Fitzpatrick, he has been singing since the age of two and has recently begun learning the fiddle with the Comhaltas Phil Rooney Branch Ballyshannon.
From a spontaneous performance in Wexford to a grand arrival in Carrick, his story has been one of charm, determination, and pure joy. And if Saturday’s celebrations are anything to go by, Séamie Séan’s star is only beginning to rise.
