Independent councillor Irene Guckian Rabbitte has told Shannonside that she will table a motion at next week’s meeting of Leitrim County Council seeking a review of disabled parking provision throughout the county.
The Ballinamore Municipal District councillor said that while improvements have been made in recent times – particularly through Public Realm Enhancement works in Carrick-on-Shannon and Mohill, which delivered additional accessible spaces – more could still be done.

Cllr Guckian Rabbitte stressed that although the issue is not yet a widespread problem in Leitrim, there are areas where further designated parking bays would be of benefit to people with mobility challenges.
“Mohill seems to be well serviced. Ballinamore, from what I can see, has a few. Again, it’s probably a case of counting them to be sure there are actually enough. Manorhamilton, which I passed through recently, also has some. There are a few places like Drumsna that could probably have them more clearly marked. I know they still have to mark two of them in Mohill.”
Rabbite was appointed to Leitrim county council earlier this year following the passing of her father and long time councillor Des Guckian.
