Leitrim County Council have been successful in negotiations with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and are currently arranging for the reintroduction of the textile banks across the county on a trial basis effective from Wednesday, 10 September, Cllr Padraig Fallon revealed this week.
He said that it "may take a number of weeks before textile banks are delivered to all areas of the county. Once the textile banks are in place, Leitrim County Council will promote and advertise their reintroduction through our social media channels.
Thank You to Leitrim County Council for their efforts here."
Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Cllr Padraig Fallon said: "The local authority got onto the department and they had a small amount of funding made available but it was to be dispersed over the whole country and it wasn't going to do anything for any area. Seemingly, they have reconsidered which is good because it costs them twice as much to clean up."
He continued that people are "delighted that they are coming back; I suppose sometimes it can be like a lot of things; they're taken for granted when they're there and are only really missed when they're gone. I was surprised by the number of people who got in contact with me about them when they were gone. We use them ourselves."
