A local road described as the “worst road in Leitrim” is set to undergo restoration works in 2026, according to a meeting of the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District.
Cllr Paddy Farrell urged the district engineer to assess the condition of road L-7407 from Corderry Cross to Meelick.
“Residents on this road have been severely impacted for a long time due to storm and forestry works. The Corderry end of the road needs to be on next year’s road works program,” his motion stated.
Cllr Farrell explained that the road has suffered from overhanging trees and heavy lorries carrying timber, and noted that the area and surrounding regions have been left without power for up to three weeks during storms.

He further stressed that forestry companies should be held accountable for the road’s condition and contribute financially towards its restoration.
“It needs to be done as soon as possible. It’s the worst road I’ve seen in County Leitrim,” said Cllr Farrell.
A response from the Roads Department confirmed that restoration works on the road were postponed until 2026 due to major timber extraction planned for 2025.
Additionally, the L-7404 at Corderry Cross will also undergo works in 2026 as part of the road works programme.
