Still no clarity on placement of Leitrim’s three emergency generators

Leitrim County Council is awaiting the release of national guidelines on emergency generators and community hubs, with the generators expected by the end of Q1 next year.

Still no clarity on placement of Leitrim’s three emergency generators

It is expected that the three emergency generators allocated to each local authority will have the tender process concluded around Christmas, with delivery of the generators anticipated by the end of Q1 next year.

There is still no clarity on where the three generators designated for Leitrim County Council will be installed.

Cllr Mary Bohan asked at a meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District that a generator be supplied to Killargue Community Hub.

“Killargue Community Hub provided huge services during the storm. For a small community, they have to be commended for the services they provided,” she said, adding that the area is one of several particularly affected by adverse weather, which is why they requested the Council consider providing a generator there.

Director of Services for Finance, Environment and Climate, Vincent Dwyer, said the Council is trying to establish more details on the generator situation, with Carlow County Council acting on behalf of the Local Government Sector to oversee the procurement process.

Guidelines for local authorities on this matter are currently being developed at a national level, so the Council must wait for their release. Mr Dwyer added that they must also be “conscious” of the county’s geography.

Separately, Cllr Bohan also asked when works at Kilcoon in Dromahair will be completed.

It is hoped the project will be tendered early next year, and discussions are ongoing with landowners, with agreements necessary to progress the works.
