It was a unique and historic occasion in St. Michael’s Church, Glenfarne, on the 27th. June three priests, Fr. John O’Donnell, Fr. John Quinn and Fr. Thomas Woods, celebrated their Golden Jubilee.
Cardinal Sean Brady presided at the concelebrated Mass, while Bishop Leo O’Reilly was the main celebrant. The local Pastoral Council deserve great praise for the wonderful liturgy that the congregation were privileged to witness for the occasion.
There was a marvellous meal provided in the Rainbow Ballroom after the Mass, which completed a memorable night. Frs. O’Donnell, Quinn and Woods were ordained in Cavan Cathedral on June 21st. 1964, by Most Reverend Dr. Austin Quinn.
Since then Frs. Quinn and Woods have worked in parishes all over the Kilmore Diocese. Fr. O’Donnell taught in both the Comprehensive schools in Coothill and Manorhamilton, before becoming a curate in Teemore and later Parish Priest in Killinagh.
The Golden Jubilarians are deeply grateful to those who organised this special event on June 27th. for the three of them, and they wish to thank all those who attended.
They also thank the artist for the paintings, which were very appropriate gifts. While they did not expect any gifts, they do wish to thank those who gave them, and they have made donations to Trocaire and other charities.
The Golden Jubilarians wish to offer two special prayers, one of thanks to God for the opportunity and privilege it has been to minister to His people in so many parishes for fifty years, and secondly their prayer is that the Lord of the harvest will send badly needed labourers into His harvest.
